The speaker at Mansfield Inner Wheel Club’s Meeting on Wednesday May 9th, Chris Vasper, impressed us all by his courage in completing “The Marathon des Sables” across the Sahara Desert, not once but twice! The formidable challenge was to complete 156 miles in 7 days in temperatures over 40 degrees through endless sand dunes, over rocky cliffs and very hot, sandy plains, whilst carrying his own equipment. We were awe inspired by the competitors’ resilience, perseverance and determination to reach their target and to raise a considerable amount of money for the charity “Walking with the Wounded”. Barbara Dixon gave the vote of thanks and presented a cheque to Chris Vasper.
