Mansfield Inner Wheel Club recently swapped its usual meeting format for something altogether more glamorous, as members took to the catwalk at the Oakham Suite for a fabulous charity fashion show featuring clothes supplied by our very own Julia Brown at VB Style.

Members and friends did the honours as models for the evening, showcasing a stunning mix of styles to suit every occasion — from relaxed beachwear, daywear to elegant evening wear — and it’s fair to say they took to the catwalk like seasoned professionals!

The evening was rounded off with a raffle which raised an incredible £700, making the night not only a whole lot of fun but a hugely successful fundraiser too.

The proceeds (which are still to be finalised) will be shared between some very worthy local causes — NSPCC Mansfield, Jerry Green, NiDAS and Muddled Mines — and a huge thank you goes to Julia at VB Style for dressing us so beautifully, and to everyone who bought raffle tickets and helped set up the event.

At our May meeting Scott from Linney Regenerate, gave a talk about the scheme.

Rather than sending unwanted materials to landfill, Regenerate gives new life to everything from paper and plastic to hardware and machinery.  Used equipment, surplus stock and promotional items are resold through online marketplaces and charity raffles, raising funds for local community groups and charities.

Scott brought along some wonderful examples of the items created through the scheme, giving members a real sense of the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into turning would-be waste into something beautiful and useful.

Their ultimate ambition is zero waste to landfill — a goal that shows just how much a forward-thinking local business can achieve when sustainability is built into everything it does.

President Dain, Past president Jenny and Inner Wheel member Sharon recently presented a cheque for £800 to the Rainbow Children’s hospice.

The £800 was raised from the Inner Wheel Ceilidh at the end of March. Kerry Laurie, Community Fundraiser, was very pleased and delighted with the donation.

Past President Jenny, Current President Dain and Vice President Nicola presented a cheque for £800 to John Eastwood Hospice and volunteer Liz.

The money was raised from a fun and fabulous ceilidh that inner wheel organised and hosted in March.

Twelve members of Mansfield Inner Wheel descended on the District 22 quiz last Wednesday evening, armed with enthusiasm, questionable general knowledge, and the unshakeable belief that this would be our night. Spoiler: it was and it wasn’t.

Our three teams – Dain’s Diamonds, Dain’s Dynamos and Dain’s Dreamers, delivered a performance best described as “varied” — one team stormed to a very respectable 5th place, another flew the flag in 11th, and our third… well, 17th place is still a placing, and we’re choosing to see it as a triumph of participation over perfection. 🤣🤣

A brilliant, laughter-filled evening was had by all, and we left with our dignity mostly intact, a few new quiz facts rattling around our heads, and absolutely no regrets.

Watch out District 22 — we’ll be back, and we’ve already started revising!

President Dain Pinder and Vice-President Nicola De Lucis presented a cheque for £1000 to Reach Mansfield.  Dain and Nicola met with staff and clients to chat and better understand how Reach serve the local community.

 

The Inner Wheel National conference was held in Llandudno when around 800 ladies, including six from Mansfield IW enjoyed three days of fun and friendship, despite the very windy showery weather. 

Our conference started with a service led by the Association President Pam Boyes followed by greetings from the Mayor of Llandudno and the President of International IW Kay Moorland. We were then treated to speakers from Anglesey Sea Zoo, Tourettes Action, Thatchers’ Cider and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Tuesday evenings entertainment was “A Night at the Musicals” by the very talented Welsh of The West End group, everyone joined in and were on their feet a great evening.

Wednesday morning was the AGM followed by the guest speaker Patrick Grant from the ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’; Patrick suggested that the members might like to make an outfit out of Inner Wheel scarves. After his presentation based around the quality or lack of quality of a roasting tin, he picked the winners. There were 19 entries, our member Nicola in her fabulous dress with matching accessories was picked out first and the four winners paraded on the stage. Nicola looked stunning a well deserved winner. The afternoon concluded with an amazing junior school choir definitely some future stars there!

The Presidents evening was very lively with all in fancy dress ranging through the 50’s to 90’s and music to match from The Zoots band.

Members and friends enjoyed a wonderful evening of music, laughter and dancing at our recent ceilidh, which proved to be a great success. Around 90 people attended, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere from the very start.

The evening was filled with energetic dancing, with everyone encouraged to join in regardless of experience. The caller ensured that even beginners quickly felt at ease, and the dance floor was rarely empty as guests embraced the spirit of the occasion.

A delicious ploughman’s supper was served, providing the perfect opportunity for guests to relax, socialise and recharge before returning to the dancing. The combination of good food, great company and traditional music made for a truly memorable event.

We are delighted to report that the evening raised an impressive £1,700, which will be donated to Rainbow Hospice and John Eastwood Hospice. These funds will support the invaluable work carried out by both organisations, and we are proud to contribute to such important causes.

Our sincere thanks go to everyone who attended, helped organise the event, and contributed so generously. It was a fantastic evening that perfectly reflected the friendship and community spirit of Inner Wheel.

Guests enjoyed a showcase of seasonal outfits from Vb Style, modelled by local women, all while supporting the group’s ongoing charitable work.

Over £1500 was raised with £500 going to the charity REACH.
