Supporting The Children’s Society

DSC02728

Jane Foster enlightened us about the invaluable work which the Children’s Society does to support children who have been abused or involved in drug trafficking, or trying to cope with mental health problems or parents who are alcoholic or drug addicts.  We were astonished to learn that 4.2 million children are living in abject poverty.  President Elizabeth presented Jane with a cheque for £2,224.00 for The Children’s Society, which was raised at Yvonne Neville’s “Truly Scrumptious Coffee Morning!” in July.

District 22 Inner Wheel with District 1220 Rotary Annual Carol Service

IW Carol Service 19 1
Our District Inner Wheel and Rotary Annual Carol Service was held on Sunday 8th December 2019 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Mansfield.
The service was conducted by Reverend Father John Kyne and attended by a hundred and fifty Inner Wheel and Rotary members.
The Inner Wheel District 22 Choir was conducted very well by Maureen Tunney, who was the soloist for the Entrance Hymn, Once in Royal David’s City.
Readings and prayers were given by Rotary District Governor David Hood, Mansfield Rotary President John Bilzon, Mansfield President Elizabeth Roughton, Member of Council Rachel Cooper, Elaine Campin, Deirdre Bailey and Kathy Winson.  District Chairman Anne Lyons gave a reflection on the service and thanked everyone who had contributed to such a lovely Christmas Carol Service.  Veronica Malkowski and her team of helpers very kindly served seasonal refreshments afterwards in the Church Hall.

Ben Bradley Conservative Candidate

All sitting MPs lost their titles when Parliament was dissolved for the election to take place on 12th December this year.  So Ben Bradley, who we know as MP for Mansfield, was introduced as the Conservative Candidate for Mansfield, Warsop and the surrounding area.

Ben impressed us with his enthusiasm and positive attitude towards improving our town centre.  He was optimistic about encouraging new business enterprises, as well as building more affordable homes in the area.
Joan Smith gave the vote of thanks.

District Chairman Anne’s Club Visit

Our Immediate Past President Anne Lyons, now appointed as District 22 Chairman, took us back down memory lane, as she gave a fascinating talk about her childhood, her education and her family in Mansfield.

Raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

District 22 Chairman Anne Lyons organised a very successful and most enjoyable Ladies Charity Luncheon at the Hostess Restaurant in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support with the help of Mansfield Inner Wheel members .

Our guest speaker, Dawn Blunden, enthralled us all with her beautiful cakes, so imaginatively decorated.  We were very impressed to hear that she was commissioned by the Royal Family to make the Wedding Cake for Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.  The raffle prizes helped to raise an amazing amount of money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Well done!DSC02690

A Walk in Thoresby Park

Many thanks to Diana Whiteley and Dain Pinder for organising this wonderful 5 mile walk round Thoresby Park!  We were joined by two friends of Diana and had lots of fun and friendship together.
After a stroll round the grounds of Thoresby Hall, a few more members joined us for a tasty lunch in the cafe in the courtyard.

Congratulations District Chairman Anne!

At the Inner Wheel District 22 Induction Day, held at Eastwood Hall on July 15th, we felt very proud, as our immediate Past President, Anne Lyons, was inducted as Inner Wheel District 22 Chairman.
We all wish her a very happy and successful year ahead.
