Celebrating 75th Anniversary of VE Day

This poster was sent by Elaine, who had a wonderful afternoon tea party in her front garden.  Unfortunately she didn’t take any photos but lots of her neighbours celebrated the occasion together with music playing, afternoon teas, cakes, drinks and BBQs.

Ann Davies organised an afternoon tea party with sandwiches, cakes and drinks to celebrate VE 75 Day with her neighbours, and to thank them for their kindness and support towards her, especially when she was ill.

‘Lesley talks rubbish’!

At our Inner Wheel Club Meeting on March 11th, Lesley Taylor gave us a very interesting talk about Veolia, Notts. County Council Household Recycling Plant, where huge amounts of rubbish are made   into brand new products.
She also organised a quiz:-  “Which bin does waste go into?”  It wasn’t as easy, as we all thought, to choose which type of rubbish should be put into the recycling or general waste bin!
IW March 20
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus pandemic, our District Chairman Anne Lyons and our President Elizabeth Roughton have had to cancel or postpone all forthcoming Inner Wheel events.  President Elizabeth will hopefully be able to reschedule her Charter Anniversary, the visit to Tissington Hall and possibly the Last Night of the Proms.  We thank both of them for their dedication, hard work and amazing organisational skills throughout their year of office.  We are all looking forward to seeing each other again in due course.  Take care and keep smiling!

With a Little Help from our Friends

It was a real family affair at our fundraising ‘ Pub Night’.  Veronica started the ball rolling when she persuaded her son Robert to use his Karaoke talents (and all that professional electronic equipment) to help us raise funds for international charities.

Ray was on hand in his role of Master of Ceremonies and all our friends and family rose to the occasion.

A whole team of people gathered during the afternoon to prepare the room.  Robert and his glamorous assistant Rachael set the stage for the entertainment and Rosemary made a lovely job of the’themed’ table centres.

IW Pub Night 3

Thanks to Lynn and Janet, a lively quiz got our little grey cells working and kept the conversation going as each table worked together to get the best score.  There  were no arguments as the quiz master’s decision was final!

A delicious supper of pie and peas was organised by Dain and her sister.   They delivered, served and made sure everything was spick and span at the end of the evening: assisted of course by Inner Wheel members who never shirk when it comes to producing a never ending dessert trolley and wielding a tea towel.

Yvonne brought her whole family and Michael kept us busy with a new game of chance.

Then it was on to the main event and it was great to see that everyone – young and not so young were all keen to fill in those slips of paper and give us a rendition of their favourite song.

We all know that if you go to an Inner Wheel fundraiser,  you should never leave your belongings unattended – or they might end up on the raffle table!  Luckily that didn’t happen but we did have a magnificent raffle to end the evening.  Thanks to all those who donated the prizes.

IW Pub Night 2

IW Pub Night 5

IW Pub Night 4Margaret and Frank Ceney sold the raffle tickets and two of our lucky winners were Kathy’s granddaughter, Charlotte and Carol Hyde-Barker.  A well deserved reward to Carol for all that slaving in the kitchen.IMG_1563

Many Hands Make Light Work

Many thanks to Rosemary Wilson for hosting our Working Day again and for preparing a delicious lunch for us all.
International Organiser Veronica Malkowski has worked very hard with the help and support of Inner Wheel members to make 60 baby bundles for the Police Aid Convoy to transport abroad.
There was a lovely, friendly atmosphere, as members and a few guests spent the day sewing, knitting, crocheting, packing baby bundles and toy bags, cutting stamps and helping in the kitchen.
It certainly was a very successful and enjoyable day.

Supporting The Children’s Society

DSC02728

Jane Foster enlightened us about the invaluable work which the Children’s Society does to support children who have been abused or involved in drug trafficking, or trying to cope with mental health problems or parents who are alcoholic or drug addicts.  We were astonished to learn that 4.2 million children are living in abject poverty.  President Elizabeth presented Jane with a cheque for £2,224.00 for The Children’s Society, which was raised at Yvonne Neville’s “Truly Scrumptious Coffee Morning!” in July.

Andrew Clarke entertained us by singing whilst we were enjoying eating our Afternoon Tea.

District Chairman Anne Lyons and June Lane were the lucky winners of two beautiful Christmas cakes, which Veronica Malkowski had very kindly made for the raffle.  The proceeds will go to charity.

District 22 Inner Wheel with District 1220 Rotary Annual Carol Service

IW Carol Service 19 1
Our District Inner Wheel and Rotary Annual Carol Service was held on Sunday 8th December 2019 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Mansfield.
The service was conducted by Reverend Father John Kyne and attended by a hundred and fifty Inner Wheel and Rotary members.
The Inner Wheel District 22 Choir was conducted very well by Maureen Tunney, who was the soloist for the Entrance Hymn, Once in Royal David’s City.
Readings and prayers were given by Rotary District Governor David Hood, Mansfield Rotary President John Bilzon, Mansfield President Elizabeth Roughton, Member of Council Rachel Cooper, Elaine Campin, Deirdre Bailey and Kathy Winson.  District Chairman Anne Lyons gave a reflection on the service and thanked everyone who had contributed to such a lovely Christmas Carol Service.  Veronica Malkowski and her team of helpers very kindly served seasonal refreshments afterwards in the Church Hall.

Ben Bradley Conservative Candidate

All sitting MPs lost their titles when Parliament was dissolved for the election to take place on 12th December this year.  So Ben Bradley, who we know as MP for Mansfield, was introduced as the Conservative Candidate for Mansfield, Warsop and the surrounding area.

Ben impressed us with his enthusiasm and positive attitude towards improving our town centre.  He was optimistic about encouraging new business enterprises, as well as building more affordable homes in the area.
Joan Smith gave the vote of thanks.

District Chairman Anne’s Club Visit

Our Immediate Past President Anne Lyons, now appointed as District 22 Chairman, took us back down memory lane, as she gave a fascinating talk about her childhood, her education and her family in Mansfield.
